What’s happening with cinema at the Spotlight?
We know our customers are as keen as us for cinema to return to the Spotlight, which is why we have pulled together some frequently asked questions and answers. We promise to update you on a monthly basis to let you know the progress of cinema returning to the Spotlight. We would love to hear what films, old and new, you would like to see once we are back.
You opened in March, why isn’t the cinema back on?
Once our building work was complete our new Technical team were able to inspect the cinema projector and sound system. Unfortunately they found that significant upgrades were required to meet the standards required of the film distributors and industry. They immediately instructed a cinema equipment specialist company to review and service the projector, and report back on their findings.
What were the specialist company’s findings?
It was discovered that costly replacement parts were required on the projector and a complete new sound system installed in order to meet industry/distributor standards. The sound system for cinema is separate to the one currently operated for ‘live’ shows.
When can the required work be completed?
Currently we do not have the necessary funds to complete this work, but we are working towards making the Spotlight more financially sustainable in order to fund future projects, and we are looking into various ways that will enable us to get the work completed.
There is a huge demand for cinema, what will you do in the meantime?
We have looked at various ways to satisfy the demand for cinema at the Spotlight in the interim. One of the options we are going to trial is the screening of films in our Dinant room. Although much smaller than our auditorium, it will offer a more intimate, personal experience and we will be able to extend screening numbers dependant on demand. Quality and customer experience will not be affected and we are working towards delivering this over the coming weeks.
